What is the difference between health-related and skill-related physical fitness?

The difference between health-related and skill related physical fitness is basically the components.  Health-related fitness has more to do with living a healthy lifestyle whereas skill-related fitness would be applied to things that require skill such as baseball, football, track and field, and numerous other sports. 

What are the health-related components of physical fitness?

The health-related components of physical fitness consist of Body composition, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, and Cardiovascular Endurance.

What are the skill-related components of physical fitness?

The skill-related components of physical fitness consist of speed, agility, reaction time, coordination, balance, and power.

Why does a person not have to be a good athlete to be physically fit?

Being an athlete or athletic has nothing to do with being physically fit.  The idea of being physically fit has nothing to do with an individual's athletic abilities.  Physical fitness has to do with being able to carry out everyday life activities without fatiguing.  It has to do with a person being in control enough to manage their body weight to a reasonable fat to muscle ratio.

Why is it important to know your current level of health-related fitness?

It is important to know your current level of health-related fitness so that you are aware of any problems that you may face.  If you are unhealthy it would be good to find out earlier so that you can prevent something bad from as opposed to waiting until its to late and not being able to control the illness that may overcome you.
